Lesson Framework

Background Information & Pre-Requisites:

Using Romeo and Juliet as a framework and by using project-based learning, students will be able to tackle problems and issues beyond the classroom, incorporate prior knowledge, use critical thinking skills to actively engage in their learning, collaboratively work in groups and demonstrate in tangible ways that they have learned key concepts and skills. The target audience are English 10 students. These students are 14-16 years old. This is a mandatory course that students are expected to take. It is required that students have finished reading or viewing the play in its entirety. They will have also had experience in small groups discussing a variety of issues from the play and will already be comfortable with resources like GoogleDocs, Padlet and Stormboard. Additionally when creating groups, the instructor should do their best to ensure that each group has a variety of students that vary in their academic level, SES, race, prior knowledge/experience and culture. This assignment can be adapted to fit a variety of grade levels.
